Hyunkyung Shin is a bassist, composer, and music technology researcher.
Driven by a deep sensitivity to the power of sound, she explores how sonic experiences shape human perception, emotion, and connection. Through her work, she seeks to reimagine how we listen to, interact with, and understand the world within the realms of Extended Reality (XR).
Her practice centers on the development of interactive sound systems built upon spatial audio and virtual interfaces—systems that blur the boundaries between the functional and the aesthetic. This research unfolds as an exploration of musical human–computer interaction, where sound becomes a medium for dialogue between people and technology.
Grounded in improvisation, her artistic practice investigates hybrid interaction and embodied sound, weaving together the physical, the digital, and the acoustic. Through this evolving relationship between sound, body, and technology, she seeks new possibilities for musical expression and expanded forms of live performance.
